Fourth Grade Math Totally Rocks
Fourth grade math totally rocks and to prove it a group of students and a sponsoring faculty member meet for thirty minutes every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to explore the world of mathematics together, taking learning and conceptual understanding to new levels.
At our first meeting together we will jump into place value. We’ll move from there to addition and subtraction with LARGE numbers. Then we’ll take a side trip into geometry-land and learn about lines, angles and triangles. More equation fun will come along as we stretch our multiplication and division wings with more LARGE numbers. Finally we’ll see what the rest of the world does for measuring (and “rest of the world” means almost everyone else in the world except for us here in the good ol’ U.S. of A.) as we learn about the metric system. These topics will form the basis of what we’ll learn, but they’re only the beginning. Expect a lot of mathematical side-trips along the way.
One thing is for sure… we won’t be bored. There’s way too much to learn and we’ll have way too much fun to be bored. And one thing you’ll discover very quickly - there are often multiple ways of finding answers to math problems. That’s what makes it fun! But very, very seldom (that means almost never) will you simply be given “the answer.” The expectation is that YOU - the students - will come up with the answer and you’ll be ready to prove why your answer is the one.
